A Penny & A Promise
Today, I found a penny.
Just lying there on the ground, dull and scuffed, the kind that looks like it's been stepped on by every shoe in the Midwest. Most people might've walked right past it. But not me.
Because the second I saw it, I smiled like I'd just found a treasure.
And maybe I did.
"Find a penny, pick it up —
All day long, you'll have good luck."
We've all heard that little rhyme. I remember my grandma whispering it with a wink when I was little, slipping a penny into my hand like it was a secret. Back then, it felt lucky. Magical even.
Now, as a mom, I see those tiny moments a little differently. That penny? It wasn't just about luck. It was a nudge. A reminder. A glimmer of grace on an ordinary day.
Because motherhood isn't all glitter and giggles. It's diapers at 2 a.m., dishes you swear you just washed, and wondering if you're doing any of this right. Sometimes, a penny on the ground is enough to pause you mid-chaos and whisper, "Hey. You're doing okay."
So I picked it up. Slipped it into my pocket beside a crumpled up receipt, a pacifier, and a rock I picked up for Ariella "because it sparkled."
Today, I'm claiming that little piece of copper like a badge of honor. A mama win. A node from the universe—or maybe from Heaven—saying, "Keep going, mama. You've got this."
So, if you see one today, don't step over it.
Pick it up.
Hold it tight.
And remember:
Even the smallest things can carry the biggest meaning.
