Friday Visits and Upside-Down Books
And apparently, so has upside-down reading.
Grandma sent me this picture during one of their Friday visits, and I laughed immediately because somehow this photo captures her personality perfectly already.
Book in hand.
Upside down.
Completely committed.
I’m still not entirely sure if she was reading the book or wrestling it, but either way, she looked very busy.
What I love most about this picture isn’t just how funny it is.
It’s what sits quietly behind it.
These Friday visits have become part of her story too.
There are moments I don’t witness firsthand — the little routines, the inside jokes, the way she settles into familiar places and familiar people — but I still get pieces of them through photos like this.
Motherhood has taught me that raising a child isn’t always about holding every moment yourself.
Sometimes it looks like grandparents making time every Friday.
Sometimes it looks like a blurry phone photo sent in the middle of the day.
And sometimes it looks like your daughter attempting to read upside down while the people around her love her fiercely.
She may not remember these Fridays someday.
But I think I always will.
